Very fun work from Leo Burnett for McDonalds. Am not sure French fries would make an ideal fishing lure, or even that they travel well for that matter, however, still give it the thumbs up.
John Lewis: Christmas 2011
So many people have been talking about the new John Lewis Christmas commercial so thought I’d better pop it up here too. The ad has already been praised as the best Christmas ad of the year already and has been viewed over 1.4million times on YouTube alone in just 3 days!
Enjoy and congrats to ad agency Adam & Eve, am sure you will be getting some Lions and Clio’s etc next year. If you like the music its by Slow Moving Millie and the track is "Please, please, please", you can get it on itunes now at http://bit.ly/slowmovingmillie
John St. Catvertising
As everybody knows there is little the internet loves more than cat videos, so using this knowledge Toronto based agency John St are promoting themselves as the worlds first catvertising agency. brilliant self promotion yet again, last year they created the hilarious and popular Pink Ponies case study video.
Ogilvy One Year On: Work and Words
It has now been pretty much one year to the day since I joined Ogilvy. My first corporate job has been an exciting journey so far. Apart from getting over the initial ego challenges that come from joining a large agency, I have been incredibly happy.
My focus has been on digital education, group marketing, and integration, so after last nights big wins for Ogilvy at the bookmark awards (SA’s main digital awards), and last months Loeries wins, I am so happy and proud to see we seem to be getting it spot on.
There is plenty more work to be done, and I can’t wait to see where we will go next year. Huge thank you to everyone at Ogilvy, you are all legends, and a special thanks to Gavin, Dave and Lauren for all the inspiration. Lastly thanks to all my friends and family for all the help, whether it was advice, a favour, or just being there for a drink or several at the end of the day, I truly appreciate it.
Below are some of the highlights of the work we have done this year, enjoy.
Volkswagen Polo GTI: Date Drive
Date Drive Walked away with 2 x Bronze Awards for the Social Media category and best use of Online Video Category, 1 x Silver Award for best Microsite, and 1 x Gold Award for best Integrated Campaign. Congrats to all involved from Ogilvy, and a special thank you to Bridget Harpur from Volkswagen.
Carling Black Label: Be The Coach
Be The Coach walked away with 1 x silver for best Mobile Site and 1 x Gold for best Integrated Campaign. For South Africa getting mobile marketing right is key, congratulations to all the team from Ogilvy Cape Town involved with this, as well as a big thanks to Andrea Quaye from the SAB Carling Team.
Volkswagen Golf R: Reflex Test Game
To help Launch the new Golf R we created a game to test your reaction times to see if you were fast enough to handle the Golf R (the site was available as an interactive banner ad & website). To play the game go to: http://golfr.vw.co.za/. Congratulations to all who were involved at Ogilvy Cape Town and a big thank you to Tarryn De Klerk from Volkswagen.

ASICS: Run With Ryan Hall
Great activation work by ad agency Vitro for ASICS shoes. The installation was put up over the ING New York City Marathon weekend, and featured a 60-foot video wall in the Columbus Circle subway station. People were challenged to race against top U.S. marathoner Ryan Hall. Few people managed to keep up with Ryan’s 6-foot-10 stride length and 4:46 mile pace, even for just 60 feet. To see how it worked watch the clip above.
National Geographic: Live Augmented Reality
This is the second large augmented reality retail environment activation I have seen this year after the wonderful Axe Angels campaign. This time Advertising Agency Appshaker, London, added a live component where the public could interact with the augmented reality, in this case animals and characters from National Geographic.
Jelly Beans Music Video: Kina Grannis – In Your Arms
Music is a tricky business to make it in, creativity often helps push bands out into the open. This music video above is a great example. Kina Grannis’s new video for “In Your Arms” took 1,357 hours over 22 months, 30 people, 1 still camera, and 288,000 jelly Belly beans to make. Enjoy.
Organ Donor Foundation: Leila
Wonderful work from Lowe Bull Cape Town for The Organ Donor Foundation of South Africa. The foundation needs people to register and become donors, based on the knowledge that one person can save as many as seven lives, Lowe and Velocity Films created the above thought provoking ad.
Volkswagen: Fanwagen
VW, Netherlands and Achtung!, Netherlands are allowing the public to vote for their all time favourite classic VW on facebook at http://www.fanwagen.com. You can chose between the T1 van or the classic Beetle, one lucky voter will get the chance to win a custom 1 off customised VW.
Honda: Million Mile Joe
Fantastic work by RPA, Santa Monica, USA for Honda. They managed to find a chap called Joe who had just reached one million miles in his 1990 Honda Accord. To celebrate Honda invited him to a “Small press conference”. Instead of a small press conference they surprised him with an over the top parade featuring amongst others, a giant odometer float powered by six people spinning life-sized hamster wheels, an airplane banner congratulating Joe, several marching bands, and of course a brand new 2012 Honda Accord!
