In Australia, home of the manliest of manly beer ads, you wouldn’t expect it to be legal to show ads for soft drinks, but the above ad proves me wrong. SOLO is a classic Aussie Lemon soft drink, and used to feature a manly man called SOLO man, doing extreme things just before drinking his soft drink of choice, (see an old one here). In the late 90’s they killed of the character, but now thanks to BMF,he’s back, and it’s time to show us how it all began.
Firstly congratulations to the New York Giants for winning the 46th The Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. The Super Bowl is almost always the most watched American television program of the year and last year drew an average audience of 111 million viewers in the USA alone!
It’s no surprise then that advertisers spend a fortune on ads during the game (On average $3.5 million for a 30 second spot). Below are what I thought were the highlights from the 2012 Super Bowl. Enjoy. (You can watch all the ads over at AdBlitz)
When Volkswagen released their teaser trailer for the upcoming Super Bowl ad (now with over 10million views), I had a feeling the actual main ad would be a hard act to live up to. Above is the resulting campaign, its good, but not Star Wars child Darth Vader or singing dogs good.
To celebrate the launch of the all-new 2012 CR-V, Honda and ad agency RPA brought Ferris Bueller’s Day Off back in a big game commercial. They cast Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his all-new CR-V. Great ad and a stunning homage to an 80’s classic film.
Fantastic idea by Advertising Agency Germinal Cominicacion, Spain, for Doctors Without Borders. They created a placebo mint pill product and that was branded and sold in pharmacies around Spain, in order to help raise money for medicine needed by people in Africa. The product became one of the top 10 selling medicines in Spain and has so far enabled Doctors Without Borders to help thousands in other countries
Norwegian bank DNB recently created a clever campaign to promote its sponsorship of the The Norwegian Broadcasting Boys Choir. During December all their automated phone banking was sung by members of the choir. Find out more by watching the clip above.
Venables Bell & Partners shows what happens when you show up to a party full of vampires in a new Audi S7 with their signature LED lighting technology. Have been test driving a new Audi A1 this week and must admit the LED lights are pretty spectacular.
