Great campaign by Heineken, to celebrate their Facebook Fan page getting over 1million “Likes”, Heineken sent out a team of stunning girls to personally thanks their fans in bars and clubs around Amsterdam. Fingers crossed the girls will find their way to the rest of the world soon.

Last week my good friend Nic Haralambous popped round to Ogilvy Cape Town and gave us a great talk on the mobile landscape, mobile social networks, and his successful new company MoTribe whom he set up with Vincent Maher. Great talk.
Am always happy to show work from us at Ogilvy Cape Town and this work above was pretty ingenious in my mind. Prabashan and Sanjiv who came up with the idea send me the below explanation:
“BlueMotion is Volkswagen’s more environmentally-sensitive range. For the print campaign, we asked our client to put their money where their mouth is, by donating part of their very expensive advertising space to small, eco-focused non-profit organizations who really needed the exposure. The non-profits benefited from getting their message out there, and BlueMotion proved itself as a brand that doesn’t just talk, but takes action.”

Advert titles: Dyer Island Conservation Trust; Mveledzo Community Organisation; Harvest of Hope.
More great innovative marketing from the kulula team. This time they have decided to ad a ‘tikkie’ South Africa to the UK royal wedding by delivering a herd of cows to Buckingham Palace as lobola. For every flight booked from 14 February, kulula will make a contribution to the cost of a herd fit for a royal lobola. They say the move is made as a gesture of good will on behalf of all South Africans as proud members of the Commonwealth. An advertising campaign will be launched to encourage local flyers to make a contribution when booking air tickets. Already they have had coverage in pretty much all the local Sunday papers as well as lots of international press picking up on the fun story. Expect lots more free media coverage for them over the next few weeks. Great work by King James and Atmosphere.
Earlier today after some routine backend upgrades I managed to bugger up my WordPress theme so figured its about time I had a little theme make over. The incredible Dave and Marc Perel from Obox-Design are on the case so please bear with me while the site takes form. If your in the market for a new blog design you can’t do much better than Obox-Design, they have something for everyone, and even make some great Tumblr and Posterous themes if Micro Blogging is more your cup of tea.
Thanks for sticking around and have a wonderful weekend. Chris
A little while ago we at Ogilvy Cape Town had the pleasure getting a presentation from my good friend Fred Roed for our Ogilvy How To Friday sessions. The Friday talks were created to help educate people in the agency on online / mobile marketing, and help introduce them to great people from outside the agency.
Fred is a very tall chap, legend, and the founder of digital agency World Wide Creative and Heavy Chefs. He has been perfecting the skills of how to build successful opt-in online social communities, see the video above for the how to guide as well as learning a little something about bears and how not to hurt kittens.
Michelle from 180LA kindly sent me this nice short case study of a campaign they created for the new Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport. The aim was to to demonstrate how good the Mitsubishi’s All-Wheel Control technology is. They set out for some unforgiving terrain in Alberta, Canada, with an Outlander and Outlander sport and came home with a five official Guinness World Records in under 24 hours. See the video above.

Fascinating short clip of 100 years of IBM told through the employees of the company, was great to see how much they have accomplished. All the best for the next 100.

Volkswagen hit home with the now much talked about Darth Vader kid ad for the new Passat, great execution, will be interesting to see if they can push out some more distance with this ad with some online/mobile interaction.
Teleflora promoted a Faith Hill flower range with the below man humour gag, not the best but still worth a quick giggle.
Sony Ericsson screened their first ad for the much talked about new PlayStation branded Google Android phone called the Xperia Play, I can’t wait to play with this later in the year.
Doritos continued their fun ads with the below spot entitles “The Best Part”.
Audi big showed off its new A8 and mocked Mercedes.
Bud Light produced this fun little number below, although am a little disappointed by their standard this year.
Mercedes-Benz showed 125 years of Mercedes-Benz heritage and their new 2011 line up below. My only change would have been to save lots of cash and leave out Puffy Diddy from the campaign.
Overall I wasn’t blown away this year by the standard of ads and pretty surprised no one really tried to incorporate any interactivity or mobile marketing activations into any of the spots. Maybe next year. To see all the ads go to http://www.youtube.com/user/adblitz
