Classic old Print Ads: Sir Anthony Rawlinson

Sir Anthony RawlinsonRecently I headed back home to England for bit of a break and was having a catch up with my Dad and chatting about advertising. When he was my age in the 70’s he was a pretty famous fashion and advertising photographer so he took out some of his old work to show me.

As the ads are pretty classic I thought I would share some with you. I have included work from IBM, Speedo, Craven cigarettes, and Olympia.  I really think my Dad was the original Austin Powers, his first car was a convertible Jaguar E-Type, he travelled the world with celebs and models, and to top it off he is an incredible gentleman. Below are some photos I took of the ads, click on them to zoom in. Enjoy.

Scrabble: Google Search

Clever work from Ogilvy, Mexico. To help promote Scrabble they bought different high scoring Scrabble words on Google ads, if you clicked on the Google ad you were given the points and directed to a Scrabble microsite and then the Scrabble facebook application.

o2: Get up for England

Stunning ad from o2 for England Rugby. During the upcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand o2 will be sending out 50,000 breakfast beer and pie hampers to England fans. What a healthy start to the day !

Volkswagen: BlueMotion Roulette

Stunning work from VW Norway and TRY,Oslo. Using google street view and live streaming video they turned one of Norways main motorways into a giant roulette board. Users online could pick where on the road they thought the new Bluemotion Golf would run out of fuel, if they picked the correct square, they won the car!

On Holiday

Am taking a break for a couple of weeks to attend a wedding and some friends birthday bashes back in England. Will keep the site updated just maybe not so much daily. Have a stunning day. Chris

Newcastle Brown Ale: Shadow Art

I saw this wonderful Newcastle Brown Ale billboard using shadow art made by beer bottle tops a few days ago. Now that they have released a video clip showing the making of it I knew I had to share it with you stunning people. The agency behind it are Vitro and the shadow artist that produced it are Ellis Gallagher and Pablo Power

Hat Tip: @Jamiecurtis7 for the video clip

Coca-Cola: Summer Love FaceLook

Stunning work by Publicis- E-dologic for Coca-Cola Israel. In order to promote Cokes Summer Love concerts, they combined Face.com’s face recognition technology with Facebook. Party goers once registered, could post comments and pictures to their Facebook wall using only their faces as identification.

In order to sign up to the party in the first place the attendees used facebook and then opted into the Coca-Cola facebook activation, saving the need for onsite set up. Coke’s facebook machines were set up all around the event and over 10,000 people used the activation.

McDonalds: Dollar Drink Day Ice Statue

McDonald’s Canada recently created an ice sculpture containing 4,000 CDN dollar coins in Alberta to celebrate Dollar Drink Days. As the ice melted and people hacked away at the ice, people received the money for their dollar drinks at McDonalds. Nice work from Cossette, Vancouver.

Visit Wales: Piers Bramhall

Wonderful tourism campaign from Wieden + Kennedy, London, for Wales Tourism.

The campaign is sending Piers Bramhall and his girlfriend on an exclusive VIP trip to Wales. Their adventures will be recorded at the Visit Wales Facebook page, and in a series of TV commercials. It will culminate with a 40 second TV spot that will encapsulate Piers Bramhall’s Welsh holiday experience in January 2012.

Piers was chosen following a casting of over 300 women who were fed up with their men opting for the same summer holiday each year. Find out more about the campaign at http://www.visitwales.co.uk.
