Having kids can be tough, so Durex has set out to highlight some of the more frantic, less glamorous moments of parenthood to help promote their condoms. Wonderful ad put together by Supply and Demand.
The music is Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Last week the interwebs were talking lots about the above ad for a company that provides mail order period starter kits for young girls called HelloFlo . Rather funny the ad was made by two guys Jamie Mccelland and Pete Marquis.
In 1989 Ayrton Senna created history for Honda by setting a world record fastest lap of the Japanese F1 circuit in Suzuka. It just so happened that Honda’s new engine telemetry system had been installed on the car and it recorded information and sound from the F1 during the lap. Now Honda has used that exact data and created a brilliant short film or an installation at the track using a light show and the original sound of the car to recreate the lap. Enjoy.

Fun piece of work for Toyota’s RAV4. Local SA agency HelloComputer created an interactive website in the real world. The RAV4 is built for the people who spend their weekends hiking and cycling, not behind their computer screens. So they created a cycling course that allowed people to interact with various contraptions, and navigate the course in real life much like how a website would work. The bike became the cursor. Enjoy.
We are fast entering the world of the internet of things (i.e. Everyday objects and devises all intelligently connected to the web). Above is a pretty incredible new device from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. The device is a mirror that can check a person’s vital signs — pulse, respiration and blood pressure — and display results in real time on the screen. Students are also working on a way to show these health indicators just by putting a person in front of a low-cost camera such as a laptop computer’s built-in webcam. Incredible.

Always interesting to see local South African internet stats. The below info is from Fred Roed’s Ideate blog and shows some local up to date stats on internet, ecommerce, and social media usage in South Africa. Go to Survey Compare to see the original full size.
One point to note is the internet usage figure yesterday was announced to be 14 million by the DMMA, the figure of 20 million below is most likely an un-weighted number (i.e. not accounting for people with multiple internet enabled devices etc).
Hal Lasko, better known as Grandpa, worked as a graphic artist back when everything was done by hand. His family introduced him to computers and Microsoft Paint long after he retired.
Now, Grandpa aged 97 spends ten hours a day moving pixels around his computer paintings. His work is a blend of pointillism and 8-Bit art. See the incredible work at www.hallasko.com
If anyone who reads this is from Microsoft please make a plan to highlight this story, go buy his art for the campus, or even just make a donation to his charity. What a fantastic gentleman and a wonderful story.

This isn’t so much an ad, it’s more an innovative pitch idea, only these guys haven’t been asked to pitch anything. Interactive agency Fi (Fantasy Interactive) wanted to see what the future of airline booking websites could look like, so they got a team together and created the above video moc up called Innovation Airlines. The site looks visually beautiful, is logical to use, is adaptive to large or small screens, and cross sells relevant additional purchases. They have tweeted the concept to most of the worlds major airlines, I for one hope this becomes a reality.
