As of next month England striker Jermain Defoe will be moving from Tottenham Hotspur to Toronto FC. To celebrate his imminent arrival they got local Toronto based agency Sid Lee to create the spot below. I’m not really a football chap but still enjoyed this, hope you do too.
Axe: Make Love, Not War
Axe is aiming to bring world peace this year for their Super Bowl ad. The ad will coincide with the launch of their new Peace fragrance range. They have also created the hashtag #KissForPeace where people can get their picture on a billboard in NY times Square if they take a picture of them kissing their partner.
This is another step towards Axe being a little less about just creating soft porn for teenagers, and instead adding a little more of a balanced view to their advertising.

13 of the best ads from 2013
This year has been a pretty good one for advertising. Rather than big new trends coming in there has mainly been an evolution of existing ones. The traditional 30 seconds TV spot is no longer de rigueur, only 2 or 3 of the ads selected are what you would call traditional ads.
This year we have increasingly seen great agencies co-develop products with their partners and there are evermore activations, acts, bits of branded content, and Goodvertising (ads that make the world a better place) is very much here to stay.
Below are 13 of the best ads from 2013, the list is in no particular order, please feel free to troll the comments section and agree or disagree with my choices.
1. Harvey Nichols: Sorry, I Spent It On Myself: In order to make this Christmas ad Harvey Nichols and their agency created real products that people could buy online/in store. To see the fun gifts have a look at http://www.harveynichols.com/sorry.
Advertising Agency: adam&eveDDB, London.
2. UTEC: Potable Water Generator: A great example of an ad that helped solve a problem. UTEC in Lima created the worlds first billboard that produces drinking water from the air.

Advertising Agency: Ogilvy & Mather, Thailand
5. Volvo Trucks: The Epic Split: One of the year’s most popular ads earned Jean-Claude Van Damme a brilliant come back. Advertising Agency: Forsman Bodenfors
6. British Airways: #lookup Billboard: Another ad that uses a billboard in a clever way. BA hired 3 digital billboards across London, as British Airways planes flew overhead, they triggered advertising creative showing real-time data of that plane, including destination and flight number.
Advertising Agency: Ogilvy London
7. Smart: TXTXBKS: Another example of an ad that’s not really an ad, this time for Telkom company, Smart, in the Philippines. They managed to help provide educational books and tests for people across the country by cleverly converting sim cards into text books.
Advertising Agency: DDB
8. KitKat: Android KitKat 4.4: Fantastic brand collaboration. Google always names it’s Android operating system after snacks, for their latest update they decided to call it KitKat. The ad below is just part of a larger campaign at www.kitkat.com. Neither Google nor Nestlé paid the other a cent for this co-branding stunt/contest.
Advertising Agency: JWT, London
9. Nike: Just Do It – Possibilities: This year Nike celebrated the 25th anniversary of their ‘Just Do It’ slogan with the below ad. To hear from Dan Wieden on the origin and inception of this famous phrase click here.

Characters from Anchorman 2 have stepped in to co-promote the movie with everything from local news shows, commentating on the Olympic curling trials, selling soft drinks, to promoting the Dodge Durango SUV (which has since seen a 36% jump in sales). Below is just one of the ads.

Smart idea for Coca-Cola from the wonderful people at Duval Guillaume. To help make Christmas a little easier for people, they created a mall poster that was also wrapping paper. Have a look at the video below to see it in action.
Apple iPhone Christmas ad – Missunderstood
Apple and their ad agency TBWA have just released an interesting new ad with a nice twist at the end. This ad was partly shot on the new iPhone 5s.
Nice ad, good twist, still not sure I really think this justifies what the kid is doing in the ad though. Have a look below to see what I’m talking about.
You can watch a special version just showing the actual footage from the iPhone 5s at http://youtu.be/JEGLhdaFBSE

Carlton Dry: #HelloBeer
Aussie beers ads are more often than not hilarious, and Carlton ads tend to be up there. The below short compilation of short ads are from Melbourne agency Clemeger BBDO who say that to make the ads they threw four guys into a share house together, gave them beers and then shot the videos. The work is for Carlton Dry and the campaign is called #HELLOBEER
