Carlton Draught: Slo Mo

It has been a while since I have written about a Carlton Draught ad but thankfully Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne, has released the above beaut. The spot features some great slo mo footage of people at a pub on a night out, as well as a stunning Pavarotti style musical track. Enjoy.

Shake Weight: Nothing to do with Masturbation (no really)

These have to be two of the funniest infomercials I have everyseen, and no its not a joke, its a real product. The product is called the Shake weight (click to see the web site).

Both the clips are going viral at the moment, and YouTube users have left some great comments such as “My shake weight is free ladies” and “SHAKE THAT WEIGHT MAN! SHAKE IT HARDER!!!".

Brilliant, I dare you not to find this amusing! (For an extra laugh listen to the guys one without watching the video, it even sounds dodgy).

Grolsch: Magnetic Airstream Caravan (Metalmorphosis)

Old Mac Daddy is a new luxury trailer park style hotel based in a beautiful corner of the Elgin Valley about an hour outside Cape Town. As a global supporter of contemporary art and design Grolsch chose to be one of the 10 designers to makeover one of the luxury 1940’s Airstream caravans and have christened it Metalmorphosis.

The Grolsch airstreams unique features consist of a number of innovative magnetic elements including a 360-degree magnetic puzzle which doubles as wallpaper, a clock which tells time through the movement of iron fillings pulled by magnets; and a life-sized pin wall, handmade with over 40 000 metal pins. The Airstream is also fully air-conditioned with a fully kitted bathroom adjoined and houses a queen size bed. I just wish they supplied a few cases of Grolsch when they rent it out.

Grolsch also set up a unique bar on the premises with Grolsch on tap (one of a few bars to sell draught Grolsch in South Africa, again though no news on free yummy beer if your staying in the Metalmorphosis Airstream)

To try it out for yourself just go to www.oldmacdaddy.co.za and make a booking (its a bargain at R475 per night at the moment)

Congrats to Coley Porter Bell (part of the Ogilvy group) and Rotem Schachar for the stunning design.

Cadbury: Flying Ostrich

Lovely work from Saatchi & Saatchi, South Africa, for Cadburys Chocolate, especially as I had some Ostrich for supper the other night (not the one shown above).

The spot shows a daring Ostrich taking a leap out of an aeroplane and attempting to fly before pulling a Cadburys parachute and heading on down to terra firma safely. Saatchi have also tied the TV ad into a nice custom website at http://www.glassandahalf.co.za/ where users can win up to R300,000 and play an ostrich game.

Radiolab and Evernone: Words

A very stunning short video linking words together as a promo for USA radio station WNYC’s show called Radio Lab. The short film was made by  Will Hoffman and Daniel Mercadante and features an original score by Keith Kenniff. McDonald’s: Clever Outdoor Campaigns

mc_fries_pedestrian_crossing

Two rather charming outdoor campaigns by the fast food joint everyone loves to hate, McDonalds. Just click them to enlarge the images.

The first burger moon print was made by the Heye Group, Germany. The painted zebra crossing campaign was done at a Zurich pedestrian crossing during Zürifest in July, the work was done by TBWA, Switzerland.

Tuffy: Recycled Refuse Bags (Clear Conscience)

Tuffy-CleanCons-Burglar Tuffy-CleanCons-Murderer Tuffy-CleanCons-WhiteCollar

The other day while visiting Sir Allan Kent of Cape Town’s Saatchi At Play, I spotted these great prints (shown above) in the reception for Tuffy refuse bags.

The general idea was that Tuffy’s 100% recycled refuse bags can give anyone a clear conscience. Saatchi made up some extra large Tuffy bags, put some great art and copy on them, and then placed them in one of South Africa’s largest malls by the bins and in traditional poster frames (see print below).

The copy says the following:

Burglar:
“The words of Bob’s jailbird father echoed in his head. ‘Son, don’t make the same mistake I made.’ And he hadn’t; this was a 100% recycled refuse bag.”
Murderer:
“Although deep down Toby knew that murder was wrong, he couldn’t help but feel good about himself. After all, he only ever used 100% recycled refuse bags.”
White Collar:
“Miles was no fool he knew shredding the documents was illegal, but he reasoned that there was no point in sweating the small stuff. After all, he was using 100% recycled bags.”

NoMu: Bloggers Poster Campaign

NoMU A0 Poster_Final NoMU CT Girl Online Poster_final NoMU_HARDIMAN_WEB POSTER_FA

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting a brilliant South African entrepreneur called Paul Raphaely. Paul is the man behind NoMu, a company started by wife Tracy Foulkes and himself in 2000. They are essentially a South African food and lifestyle brand, and are beginning to take the world by storm.

One thing that all small brands have to deal with is the lack of marketing budget, luckily Paul is an ex Mad Man ad man and stumbled upon a stunningly simple idea that has been working a charm.

VanillaOne of the main places where all discerning Capetonians stop at some stage during their week is the Engen/Woolworths 24 hour petrol station and food shop in Cape Town. It’s a busy place at all times and Paul managed to get access to an unused billboard space for his fun marketing idea. The campaign basically works by getting local celeb bloggers to appear on the poster and then get passers by to pose with the photo and email them in. The best picture wins a range of donated prizes each month from NoMu & brands associated with the bloggers. So far the posters have included prints from 2OceansVibe, Cape Town Girl, Richard Hardiman and more (See some examples of entries at the bottom of this post).

The only things that cost anything for this whole campaign is the printing of the poster and a bit of design which costs next to nothing. Photography and styling are free and all the prizes are donated. Paul Raphaely said the following on the campaign:

“Ultimately, the real benefit is the online exposure as all the associated bloggers do their bit to drive their own hype which means NoMU gets to be guaranteed of quite solid exposure to a potentially different audience every single month. Taken individually this doesn’t seem like much but if added up across several months, the real impact is significant.”

The entries keep getting higher as word of the mechanic of entry gets more regularly spread around and people begin to treat it as a ‘thing-to-do’ each month that involves little to no real effort and could win massive prizes. The campaign has been doing so well that it has even attracted the attention of District 9 Actress Vanessa Haywood as a future NoMu poster lady!

All in all great work, if you want to be kept up to date on all things NoMu check out their great blog here.
