Coca Cola: Augmented Reality Bottle Tags

Interesting approach from Coca Cola South America. They decided to use Augmented Reality Tags on the bottles to show consumers their new TV ad 2 weeks in advance. I’m impressed the agency got this through as I know how hard it can be to convince big brands to take a chance, but I fear somewhere down the line they were told to reign in their creativity.

If a brand like Coca Cola is willing to give AR a go, why not go large ? off the top of my head some sort of happiness factory game with random prizes would have been nice, or at least use some 3D graphics rather than a plain TV ad.

  1. This is really great Chris. People are always coming at me saying where is the customer value with AR. I think from a competitive advantage point, having an interactive Coke label would get my vote over other brands, especially knowing how slick Cokes advertising is and being able to get a sneak peak would be convincing. Like your second paragraph though and could not agree more! I am a huge AR fan and am enjoying your posts since subscribing earlier this week! Thanks

  2. Great idea but why an ad? probably cause ad agencies are still obsessed with making the things and can’t think beyond them. Half a win.
