Tiger Woods PGA Tour Banner ad

Great banner ads are a rare breed, so its a pleasure to be able to share this beauty with you recently done for the release of the new EA sports game; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. To have a look at the ad just click the picture to the right of this text and it will take you on a golf journey. Great work by Freestyle Interactive I especially love the way they got Tiger to act for a banner ad ! (He must love his game franchise). The last great banner I featured was the epic Pringles banner, If you missed it just click here to check it out, trust me its worth it !         Hat Tip: Adverblog

Sony Ericsson adds more colour to logos

Sony Ericsson adds more colour to logos

According to Dave Hilton, UK marketing director at Sony Ericsson there is “clearly a desire to freshen up our advertising”. One of the ideas is to add several more colour options to its logo, which traditionally has been a silver and green sphere since 2001. New colours will include pink, blue, orange and purple. The new logo colours will only be part of the companies latest, biggest yet £8m ad campaign to promote its upcoming Entertainment Unlimited phone and service offerings, namely the Satio, Aino and Yari handsets as well as its PlayNow music- and film-download service. Their last big branding makeover was the incredibly successful “ I Love* Sony Ericsson”, where the Love* was the Sony Ericsson logo (see fun example below). That campaign helped to increase Sony Ericsson’s market share by 15% as well as increasing profits by over 100% in 6 months and was done by the Wolff Olins agency. Sony Ericsson UK is also currently finalising a campaign due to launch next month, which will offer consumers who buy certain handsets the opportunity to win tickets to next year’s football World Cup, which takes place here in South Africa. Sprint: New Now Network Campaign

Jul 29th, 2009 by admin

Above are all the the new Sprint mobile adverts. Great job from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. I love the random use of crazy (if slightly improvable) facts. I’m not American, but I know from all their fun ads that the first place I would look for a contract if / when I do go back for a long period of time will be Sprint, so Job done then !

Audi Centre Cape Town MVP day

Jul 27th, 2009 by admin
Audi Centre Cape Town MVP day

Last Friday I had the pleasure of helping to organise the first of what I hope will become many Audi Centre Cape Town MVP days. The basic idea was to see if we could use some fun non-traditional media methods to help advertise and get some nice PR for Audi Centre Cape Town. I chatted to Audi Cape Town and put forward the idea and thanks to the incredible Wernich Stipp we got the go ahead for a fun morning out. Audi Cape Town then kindly agreed to lend us 4 new cars for the day namely the Q5, A4, A5, TT (and an R8 for a surprise drive). For a PDF copy of the days activities I came up with and gave to all the MVP’s click here. I arranged for our half way drive stopping point to be at local rugby legend Bob Skinstad’s place in Noordhoek, namely the incredible Toad in the Village (A must visit for anyone staying in Cape Town). Bob even kindly was there to say hi before he left to cover the Tri-Nations (See pic above). At the Toad we then pulled a name out of a hat for a drive in the Audi R8 and Gabrielle Rosario took the honours, getting to drive it back to town. Finally we ended the day up at Theo’s restaurant in Mouille point, where Audi kindly bought us all a late lunch and even gave us gift bags for coming !! Audi Centre Cape Town are legends, I have been blown away. For all the pictures from the day click on the Album link below. The group consisted of Joe Botha, Cath Lückhoff, Matt Buckland, Marilu Matthee, Scott Hayes, Elodie Kleynhans, Gabrielle Rosario and myself. Big Thanks to everyone for coming along and helping out and am looking forward to seeing how this evolves ! ****Update: Joe Botha added more pictures on Facebook, Click here***** View Full Album

Worst ad of 2009 (Samsung Bungee jumping elephant)

Jul 23rd, 2009 by admin

I have seen a lot of rubbish this year but nothing in my mind comes close to this horrible drivel coming from The Viral Factory for Samsung’s new Jet phone. Unfortunately I suppose I am writing about it and so am helping them spread the word, but really if I had no brain I would like to think I would still be offended by this total cop out. At least AdRants seems to agree with me, let just pray we don’t have to suffer more of this and Samsung go back to making great ads like this one. P.S. If any one from the Viral factory reads this I do normally love your work but guys come on…..Seriously !

New Sony Ericsson Xperia Rachael (X3) Touch Android phone

As regular readers may know, I have a particular love for Sony Ericsson phones, and so on that note lets look at the new upcoming XPERIA 3 touch phone. This Phone is at present being developed under the code name Rachael and will probably be Sony Ericsson’s first Android OS based phone.

I do like the general slim line look and especially like large 4” touch screen, the USB charging and media socket (soon to be standard on all European phones) and the 3.5mm headphone socket.
Sony Ericsson EXPERIA 3 Specs

  • Wi-Fi, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA 3G data
  • A-GPS
  • GSM Quad-band
  • 8MP autofocus camera
  • 3.5mm Headphone socket
  • Mini USB jack (for charging and media)
  • Micro SD / Micro SDHC Memory Slot
  • Android SE customised touch Operating System
  • Li-Polymer Battery
  • Processor: Snapdragon 1 GHz Processor with dedicated 3D graphics
  • 4″ WVGA touch screen

If your interested in seeing how the customised Android touch interface is coming along just look at the video below.

Expect the Xperia 3 phone to be released in stores worldwide around the 1st half of 2010.

P.S. There have been rumours that they will use the new Windows mobile 6.5 OS instead but will keep you updated as and when.

Ignore Everybody: Creative essentials

Ignore Everybody: Creative essentials

Recently I finally got round to having a read of legend Hugh MacLeod’s stunning debut book “Ignore Everybody”. The book is based on a series of Gapingvoid blog posts he did entitled Creativity, plus a few more added chapters to keep it fresh. Great and inspiring work, I’m sure this will go down as one of those must have books for peeps in the ad game along with the legends like Paul Arden and Seth Godin. If your interested in changing the world or even just becoming a real hero, I highly suggest you run to your local historic paper book selling store and pick up a copy. If your more of a digital type person you can get it online at places like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or if your in South Africa try Kalahari etc etc. Having had the pleasure of working with Hugh on a little wine project a while back, I do hope that he enjoys this picture above of his first masterpiece with a relatively famous mountain that looks like a table in the background. Finally enjoy some of his famous cartoons I picked out (just click on them for the larger versions), and if you want to become a member of Hugh’s Tribe just join the "Crazy, Deranged Fools" mail list.

Banned Sprite ad: Sprite Facial

Jul 21st, 2009 by admin

Took ad down after a Cease and Desist Legal Letter :( The truth revealed by the actor himself over at the New York press (click here) This rather blatant pornographic trophy shot spot for Sprite* Germany was supposedly banned from TV (unsurprisingly). Imagine this been shown during a The Simpsons ad break. *Have found no Sprite or agency confirmation that this was submitted, however this is how its been reported worldwide so far. Will update if I find more info. Hat tip to AdFreak for the original find.

Durex: Condoms that generate desire

Jul 21st, 2009 by admin

Love (and a condom wrapper) is in the air, and so the French are at it again constantly in this great new spot for Durex. In my view still not quite as good as Durex’s last effort with the humping balloon animals, but close ! Fantastic work by McCann Paris and nice to see them managing to capture pretty much every age demographic too !
