Old Spice: Odor Blocker

Another month and another hilarious Old Spice ad, this time singing the praises of their new Oder Blocker body wash. The ads feature a rather large gentleman called Terry Crews who is an ex-American footballer and now actor, flexing his many muscles and talking loudly to camera.

Another addition to a great campaign by Wieden + Kennedy, you can see more of these by visiting the Old Spice  YouTube channel here.

HP: Let’s Do Amazing (Annie Leibovitz & Dr Dre)

HP recently launched a great ad campaign featuring Rhys Darby from Flight Of The Conchords fame.

The commercials are all based on the humorous exploits of Rhys finding out more about some of HP’s exclusive partnerships and technology innovations. The above spot features Annie Leibovitz showing Rhys HP’s Dream Color Technology on a photo shoot for Freud’s couch.

There are 15 ads in total so far, click here to visit HP’s You Tube page to see them all or go to www.hp.com/letsdoamazing to see some got the amazing things HP are working on.

Great work by their Agency; 72andSunny. I will leave you with the most popular video in the series so far staring Dr Dre !

Magners Cider: Catch (Method in the Magners)

Above is a great ad for Magners Irish cider called “Catch”. The ad was made by London based Creative Agency The Red Brick Road. They created two TV campaigns, the first one above shows the unbeaten  local Clonmel cricket team catching every ball hit. The second ad shows the story of Aiden Boyle, Magners crazy apple driver who always drives in a straight line from A to B (see the clip here). Both fun TVC’s videos feature the punch line “There’s method in the Magners”

Did you know Magners is called Bulmers in the Republic of Ireland, but Magners elsewhere to stop confusion of an English cider brand also called Bulmers.

Mooncup: LoveYourVagina.com

Love your vagina

LoveYourVagina.com is a crazy site created by a new British "tampon alternative" brand called Mooncup. I won’t go into the messy details but check out http://www.mooncup.co.uk/ to see what this new product is, all I can say is I’m damn glad I’m a guy.

Mooncup’s ad campaign has been to create a microsite called LoveYourVagina.com and ask people to enter pet names for their intimate area ! Enter your own pet names by going to LoveYourVagina.com

If this is your kind of thing you can also check out Mooncups twitter feed and facebook page

Nandos: Wives

Nandos are one SA brand constantly known for their great tongue in cheek adverting campaigns, and the above new TV spot is no different. After the recent negative worldwide press created by the SA president Jabob Zuma having 3 wives, Nandos has decided to ride on some of the hype. Nice work.

Bisquit Cognac Launches in South Africa

209 10 (LR)02 (LR) _MG_6017_to_email_a 03 (LR)

Last week I was kindly invited to the launch of the internationally renowned Cognac brand; Bisquit (no it’s not pronounced like biscuit). The event was held at a stunning house in Bishops Court. Bisquit was started by a 20 year old chap called Alexandre Bisquit in 1819 and went on to be to cognac of choice for such epic gentleman as King George IV and Winston Churchill.

The day was pretty wonderful for me, I think there must have been about 20 stunning ladies and maybe 3Bisquit fashion chaps, that’s a good ratio in my book. Each of us were given a map and a delicious cognac cocktail (Bisquit Classique, lemonade, ginger, mint and ice), the map led us around several rooms, each of which told a story of the brand and its history. Next we all got a chance to dress up in old school outfits and had our portrait taken in a made up colonial French style set (see pic of me above).

13 (LR)A Bisquet cognac tasting session was naturally next in order, first up was the VS Classique (approx R260), this one to me had a strong yellow citrus nose and a plumish taste, great for mixing or on its own with lots of ice. Then came my favorite, the Bisquit VSOP Fine Champagne (approx R445), I honestly think this is the best Cognac I have ever tasted, the nose was subtle with dried fruit scents, and the taste was just out of this world, perfectly rounded, with mellow fruit, by far my favorite.

To finish the day we got to wind down outside eating fantastic canapés, listening to relaxing live music, and then just to cap it off I won a competition to get to keep the designer chair and side table, made for the photo shoot by legendary local designer Francois Irvine !! I just pray when they deliver it they supply a bottle of the VSOP for the side table to complete the look.

2010 Loerie advertising awards: Print campaign

World Loeries 2010 Loeries England Loeries Loeries Stadium Mailer Loeries The road Loeries Loeries Magazine ad woodstock Loeries

The main advertising awards in Africa are the Loeries, each year a different agency is picked to do the creative work for the awards and this year it’s Ogilvy Cape Town’s turn. The ads above and below all expertly take the piss of the crackdown of world cup related ads for the upcoming World Cup football tournament to be held here later in June 2010. FIFA and their army of  lawyers and other evil doers have been cracking down on any local advertising that even hints at the world cup, most recently making local airline Kulula pull an ad after it had pictures of footballs and Vuvuzelas in it !

Entries for the Loeries are open now for all agency work done in Africa and the Middle East etc. Visit www.theloerieawards.co.za for full details. Nice work Ogilvy.

Diet Coke: Puppets ad + Stay ad

Over the weekend I saw two great commercials for Diet Coke. The first one above is the new Diet Coke “Puppet” spot by Mother, London. If puppets and musical dance routines are your thing then you wont be disappointed.

The second spot below is an American  Wieden+kennedy made ad called “Stay”. The ad is beautifully shot but I would have to say its the soundtrack that makes it. The song for the Diet Coke stay as is “Sweet disposition” by “Temper Trap”. Enjoy.

Google: The Beast file (Google’s Interests / Values)

Great little expose on Google’s values and commercial interests, made by ABC Australia’s “Hungry Beast”, a topical news program giving views from a different perspective. The clip starts with the commentary:  “Meet Google. The noun that became a verb. The world’s favourite search engine, and the company whose motto is "Don’t be evil…"
I, like most people wonder how private my online habits and data are, but one thing I would say in Google’s defence is that the above clip is hosted on YouTube (owned by Google) and its still up there.

The video graphics were done by Patrick Clair, and the script was written by Elmo Keep.

Just for fun I did a Google auto complete search for “google is”, the top results are I think you will agree fairly amusing. Just click on the image below to see the screen grab larger.Google is
