Saatchi & Saatchi
Lovely work from Saatchi & Saatchi, South Africa, for Cadburys Chocolate, especially as I had some Ostrich for supper the other night (not the one shown above). The spot shows a daring Ostrich taking a leap out of an aeroplane and attempting to fly before pulling a Cadburys parachute and heading on down to terra firma safely. Saatchi have also tied the TV ad into a nice custom website at http://www.glassandahalf.co.za/ where users can win up to R300,000 and play an ostrich game.
The other day while visiting Sir Allan Kent of Cape Town’s Saatchi At Play, I spotted these great prints (shown above) in the reception for Tuffy refuse bags.
The general idea was that Tuffy’s 100% recycled refuse bags can give anyone a clear conscience. Saatchi made up some extra large Tuffy bags, put some great art and copy on them, and then placed them in one of South Africa’s largest malls by the bins and in traditional poster frames (see print below).
The copy says the following:
Burglar:
“The words of Bob’s jailbird father echoed in his head. ‘Son, don’t make the same mistake I made.’ And he hadn’t; this was a 100% recycled refuse bag.”
Murderer:
“Although deep down Toby knew that murder was wrong, he couldn’t help but feel good about himself. After all, he only ever used 100% recycled refuse bags.”
White Collar:
“Miles was no fool he knew shredding the documents was illegal, but he reasoned that there was no point in sweating the small stuff. After all, he was using 100% recycled bags.”

One of the most popular videos on YouTube in education circles is the 2009 Did You Know video based on Jeff Brenman’s infamous “Shift Happens” presentation. To help publicise UCT’s internationally acclaimed Graduate School of Business’s Executive Education courses, Saatchi AtPlay, Cape Town, have created these great similarly themed custom course pages. Each page gives a brief overview on the course outcomes, why its relevant, and comes complete with a custom made factual YouTube video. Click on the pictures above to see the relevant course videos and landing pages etc etc I managed to get the below quotes from Elaine Rumboll, head of UCT’s GSB Executive Education, and Allan Kent, head of Saatchi AtPlay, the interactive division for Saatchi & Saatchi . Elaine Rumboll : “The videos are a wonderful way to get our ideas of leadership out viscerally, and simultaneously create free content for people to use in their organisations.” Allan Kent : ”The idea with creating the landing pages is to give people a snapshot of what the course will give them. The video builds the curiosity, then the rest of the page gives 3 key pieces of info: why this is relevant / important now, why this course specifically answers that, and then what practical outcomes you’ll learn from it.” Great work all round, and so nice to see universities being innovative in the digital realm.
Normally I’m a huge fan of the Carlsberg commercials but this latest one for the England Football team entitled “Team Talk” falls a little short for me. Nice to see so many famous people though and must have taken some doing so thought I would share it non the less. Credit to Saatchi & Saatchi, London.
If you like football or Guinness this will probably be right up your alley. Its a new ad for Guinness by Saatchi & Saatchi and Velocity films, Cape Town. The spot features a football scout prowling Africa for local talent and finding it in the most unlikely places. Great work.
The ad was filmed in Kenya and currently airing in most Southern African countries.
Lovely campaign for Andes beer from Del Campo Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi in Argentina. Andes beer decided to help solve one of mans greatest problems: How to go out for the night with your mates without getting into trouble with your girlfriend. To solve this problem Andes created a sound proofed capsule that could be placed in main bars/clubs across the country, that would allow men to dash inside and talk to the girlfriends without them knowing they were out and about with their mates. To help make it more realistic they programmed in ambient noises that users could select to be played in the booth via a built in touch screen. Noise scenes such as traffic, supermarket, office, and even movie theatre were available. Take a look at the video above to see it in action. Almost forgot to write about this little beauty from Brisbane-based advertising company Play TV, which was submitted to an online competition to find a new Yaris car ad by Saatchi & Saatchi Australia for Toyota. The ad features some classic / classy lines like “I hope I haven’t come too prematurely” and “she can take a good pounding in any direction”. Needless to say it won the competition but didn’t manage to air for long as petty people with no humour / wit started to complain. They couldn’t stop the ad from spreading virally via YouTube etc though, and its now become a huge success. Congrats to all involved and what a fab outing in the digital world for Toyota Australia, this amount of exposure would normally cost a fortune !
This surreal and pretty stunning ad spot is for from what I can tell a chewing gum brand called Topline kiss. The clip came from Del Campo Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The music was beautifully written specifically for this spot by Spanish artist Carolina Daian, I have been trying to see if there is a full length version of the track but so far no luck, will update this post if / when I find it.
I recently had an email back from Saatchi Buenos Aires and have been told they are considering making the song into a full length track, for now though it there is only the 1 min version shown in the ad above. Will keep you updated.
The full length track is now available on Carolina’s myspace page: www.myspace.com/carolinadaian
