Toyota Prius: iPhone App Unleashes Creativity in Times Square

Oct 30th, 2009 by admin

Great creative work from Saatchi & Saatchi LA for the Toyota Prius. Using the new Prius iPhone App, users could see their drawings created on the iPhone displayed on the Reuters digital billboard in Times Square from October 26 to 28. The Prius Experience App has four modes — including "Draw," the one showcased in the above clip. (via Uwe Gutschow, Saatchi & Saatchi interactive)

Stimorol Air Rush: New Guy

Oct 29th, 2009 by admin

It’s been ages since I saw a fun chewing gum ad. This local little number is from Ogilvy Cape Town who happen to be based just down the road from me. Loving the old chaps hair blowing in the wind. Must try some Stimorol gum and get the new look. Another great piece of filming from Velocity who also shot the epic James Dean ad from a few months ago.

Purity Organic: Dildo ad

Oct 28th, 2009 by admin

Another tongue in cheek ad from the chaps at Purity Organic juice, again from McCann Erickson, New York. Love the way she gets all sentimental at the end after taking a sip of purity. You may remember they did a similar ad a few months ago called “Those Motherf@#!ers”. Classic, always nice to see a juice company pushing the boundaries. (Hat tip: AdFreak)

Audi Cape Town MVP day V2

Oct 27th, 2009 by admin
Audi Cape Town MVP day V2

Last week I organised the second Audi Cape Town MVP day. The general idea if you missed my last post on it, is to get Audi cars into the hands of SA’s most influential people in the digital space and have some fun while we are at it. The members are hand picked, and we only allow 8 people at a time to keep it select and private. MVP (Most Valuable Player) status gets you invited to excusive Audi events and track days along with a few preferential other things. This time the following fantastic people were in attendance: Lili Radloff, Justin Hartman, Matthew Buckland, Bradley Voges, Charl Norman, Joe Botha, and Sue Rutherford.

The weather was yet again fantastic and the legendary Chapmans peak drive was open, so we popped over to Bob Skinstad’s wonderful Toad restaurant in Noordhoek for a fab late breakfast snack, then we gave away a special test drive in the new Audi S4 and the fantastic Audi R8 V10 to two lucky people. Next we drove for lunch at the Cape Grace and were treated to a wonderful meal from Audi Centre Cape Town.

The cars we used this time were the Q5, Q7, A5, TT and a bonus test drive for two in an S4 and an R8 V10. My favourite for the day had to be the Q5 3.2 Quattro, I cant believe how sporty and solid the drive was and its pretty stunning looking too, especially considering I normally loath small SUV’s.

I have added a selection of pictures from the day below, for more pics check out Joe Botha’s pictures here and here.

Porsche: Panamera Family ad

Oct 26th, 2009 by admin

As an avid car fan I really enjoyed watching this new Porsche commercial for the new Panamera saloon car. Nice work from Cramer-Krasselt, Chicago. They managed to get 50 of the most iconic Porsches made to date and filed them using a helicopter and some modified Porsche Cayenne film cars. Check out the nice making of video here or visit the dedicated Porsche family website.

A few reasons why I love Microsoft at the moment

Oct 21st, 2009 by admin

For the last year I have been using a Dell M1530 XPS laptop as my main computer, meanwhile all around me my other friends have been converting to the dark side (Apple ). Above is a new promo video for windows 7 from Dell (via friend and legend Steve Clayton)

Here are a few reasons why I’m happy to stay a PC guy:

  • As a chap that helps run an education company for online marketing, I feel it’s helpful in numerous ways to use the same brand of operating system that over 90% of the people that we teach use themselves.
  • Windows 7 has been a pleasure to use for the last 4-5 months even in release candidate version. It’s much faster than Vista and in my experience XP, and even some friends Mac’s, its easy to use, visually nice, and works with all my numerous random bits of software.
  • Microsoft have now finally released a fantastic free antivirus software suite called “Microsoft Security Essentials”. Have been using it now for a few months and its the least intrusive (both notification wise and processing power wise)  anti virus software I have used.
  • Great software, mostly free such as Windows Live Writer (for blogging), Photosynth, Silverlight, Microsoft Tags, and Live Mesh, inspire me and give me great hope for an even brighter future for the company.

Feel free to disagree but I’m one happy PC.

Jameson Whiskey: Legend (John Jameson)

Oct 20th, 2009 by admin

A lovely spot for Jameson Whiskey, this time by TBWA/Chiat/Day, New York. This ad is entitled Legend, and tells the story of John Jameson’s heroic efforts to save a barrel of his finest from the depths of the ocean. Not as good as the Robert Carlyle one for Johnnie Walker from a couple of months ago but nice none the less.

Seacom submarine cable: How they did it

Oct 19th, 2009 by admin

One of the exiting things that has been happening here in South Africa recently has been the linking of the Seacom cable, allowing millions of Africans greater access to the World Wide Web.  The cable is a 1,28 terabits per second (Tb/s), 17, 000 kilometres, submarine fibre optic cable system linking south and east Africa to global networks via India and Europe. One question I often get asked by friends is “How did they do it” and thankfully I found the above clip explaining just that.

As I sit here typing this post with a 4mbps line which is the fastest domestic speed we can get in SA, I can’t wait to see the benefits of this link and hope it comes sooner rather than later. This cable is essential to help keep Africa up with the rest of the digital world and also represents a huge opportunity for all companies to get new clients. For people like Microsoft the next billion customers won’t and can’t come from developed nations, they will have to come from developing nations like Africa.

Castle Lite: Vanilla Ice

Oct 16th, 2009 by admin

Another ad I have been looking for online appeared in my inbox today thanks to the wonderful people at Ogilvy Cape Town. Old school rapper Vanilla Ice was recently in South Africa to perform and Ogilvy and SAB managed to get him to shoot a quick ad for Castle Lite featuring his classic hit “Ice Ice Baby”. The ad promoted the Castle lights new thermocromatic ink stickers which appear blue when at the beer’s ideal temperature for consumption is reached (extra cold). The spot was directed by Peter Pohorsky of Plank Films and the creative was from Ogilvy Cape Town Creative Director, Gordon Ray. Great cheesy work guys and girls, love a bit of cheese every now and then.

Captain Morgan: Captain 40 Pack

Oct 15th, 2009 by admin

Have been waiting for this ad to be available for the last month, and now finally they have put it on YouTube. When I first watched it I thought it was pretty hilarious but not just for the main content. Notice how they advertise a new huge bottle of Captain Morgan that can pour 40 shots worth of booze in a room filled with drunk peeps, then see how quickly at the end of the ad they say “Drink responsibly” !!!! CLASSIC

If you like the one above, you will also like the one entitled “The Sausage Fest” and the “reverse ventriloquist”.

Pretty sure the above ads are from Grey, love it.
