Castrol EDGE : Cristiano Ronaldo

September 30, 2009 by admin

Good work from Ogilvy Cape Town, They recently did this nice spot for Castrol EDGE featuring Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. The ad was shot in Namibia, Manchester and the remainder in and around the Western Province. Great work considering they only had Ronaldo for 6 hours (his scenes were all shot in Manchester). Wonder how much BMW paid to be featured so prominently ?

Agency: Ogilvy Cape Town, Client: Castrol,  Executive Creative Director: Chris Gotz,  Director: Ian Gabriel Production: Giant Films.

Steri Stumpie Desk Invasion Challenge

After all the recent celebrating of South African heritage/braai day, and the Loeries etc its hard to be back at work as normal, so the wonderful Tessa from Steri Stumpie has kindly given me a whole bunch of what I’m promised are uber-rad limited edition steri goodies – including a supply of the two new flavours.

To win these we’re running a bosses desk invasion challenge – you send us pictures of you posing on your bosses desk or similar with a Steri Stumpie and we pick the most deserving one to win. Bonus points if your boss is someone really important (like Jacob Zuma or something). I’ll need the photos by mid day this Friday (2nd of October) and then will announce the winner that same afternoon.

All you need to do is email your pics to me at steri@chrisrawlinson.com. One last thing, this is for people in South Africa only please.

Facebook’s new Über cool home

September 28, 2009 by admin

Just picked this up from one of my main sources of enlightenment Steve Clayton and thought I would share it with you.

Facebook has recently pimped its own main offices in Palo Alto, California. The space was previously a lab facility and is 150,000 square foot !

limitedhype.com says ” The space has been transformed to reflect the company’s core values: creativity, freedom of expression and individuality. The design team at Studio O+A conceived a vibrant, fresh, hip space that is also very green: from restored millwork from the original lab, to high-recycle content carpeting to using repurposed industrial components throughout. The space is very modern and dynamic, just what you’d expect from a company like Facebook. Ironically, employees are even encouraged to write on their walls.”

Am so keen to do something similar with our next offices in Cape Town. On a related note, congrats to FoxP2 for winning a Grand Loerie for their offices in the Communication Design category.  Will talk more about the Loeries tomorrow, needless to say I had a pretty fine weekend.

Toyota: Chase

September 24, 2009 by admin

Great new spot for Toyota from Saatchi & Saatchi. I have to dedicate this ad to Matt Buckland as the other week we managed to spend about half an hour doing exactly the above, only to find out his dog had found his own way back home after going walkabout. As a bonus check out this old but very classic Toyota spot from Brazil:

Sony Ericsson Launch Fab New Website

Just happened to check out the Sony Ericsson website while looking for some new apps for my W995 and noticed they have just done a huge great revamp. Normally I don’t chat about new websites too much but I really loved playing around this site and so thought I would share it with you. The main home page features movable 3D tiles that provide shortcuts to latest products / news, and a tab bar at the top with links to the main sections of the site (Phones/Accessories, PlayNow, Support, Community). My main highlights are as follow:

  • All content can be easily shared via simple social media sharing “AddThis” buttons
  • Sony Ericsson community driven developer creations are encouraged and supported well
  • Page content is nicely spaced out and main points/features jump out the page (See pics above)
  • Site load time is fast
  • The community labs page shows latest  Alpha and beta apps all available for download
  • Phone support and updates are quick and easy to find
  • PlayNow Store has been massively revamped and extra content such as music, Themes, ringtones and games are all easy to browse, preview and buy

Check it out for yourself at http://www.sonyericsson.com

Pure Blonde: Dove Love

September 22, 2009 by admin

Nice little sentimental number from BBDO, Melbourne for Pure Blonde beer. This one follows on from the previous Blonde beer Aussie classic trucker ad. Classic, men can be sensitive too.

Vodafone: Real Time Top 40

Following on from the #ukhols MapVodafone UK has released another great little twitter tie in app, this time called Real-Time Top 40. Vodafone enlisted the help of Ben Marsh again (the man behind the #UKhols site) and they created a live top 40 chart of what people are listening to on Twitter, to promote the Vodafone Music StoreReal-Time Top 40 is driven by people voting for music on Twitter, using the hashtag #RealTimeTop40 followed by the name of the artist and song they are listening to.

The site also includes some nice little digital media sharing and aggregations tools allowing you to share the site easily and see more of what Vodafone are up to online.

Check out http://www.realtimetop40.com/ to see it for yourself.
