Grolsch: Magnetic Airstream Caravan (Metalmorphosis)

Old Mac Daddy is a new luxury trailer park style hotel based in a beautiful corner of the Elgin Valley about an hour outside Cape Town. As a global supporter of contemporary art and design Grolsch chose to be one of the 10 designers to makeover one of the luxury 1940’s Airstream caravans and have christened it Metalmorphosis.

The Grolsch airstreams unique features consist of a number of innovative magnetic elements including a 360-degree magnetic puzzle which doubles as wallpaper, a clock which tells time through the movement of iron fillings pulled by magnets; and a life-sized pin wall, handmade with over 40 000 metal pins. The Airstream is also fully air-conditioned with a fully kitted bathroom adjoined and houses a queen size bed. I just wish they supplied a few cases of Grolsch when they rent it out.

Grolsch also set up a unique bar on the premises with Grolsch on tap (one of a few bars to sell draught Grolsch in South Africa, again though no news on free yummy beer if your staying in the Metalmorphosis Airstream)

To try it out for yourself just go to www.oldmacdaddy.co.za and make a booking (its a bargain at R475 per night at the moment)

Congrats to Coley Porter Bell (part of the Ogilvy group) and Rotem Schachar for the stunning design.
