iPhone

The man that gave Apple the i, Steve Jobs has finally made the big announcement we have all been waiting for and released the iPhone.
It looks stunning and has the following specs:-

  • Screen size: 3.5 inches
  • Screen resolution: 320 by 480 at 160 ppi
  • Input method: Multi-touch
  • Operating system: OS X
  • Storage: 4GB or 8GB
  • GSM: Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
  • Wireless data: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0
  • Camera: 2.0 megapixels
  • Battery: Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing/ Up to 16 hours Audio playback
  • Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
  • Weight: 4.8 ounces / 135 grams

Prices start at $499 for the 4GB version and $599 for the 8GB, I’m sure this will all be offset by the mobile phone service providers if your signing a 1 or 2 year contract so all in a all this is for sure set to be another great seller. The iPhone integrates all the features of a normal phone plus an ipod and great mobile internet capabilities, with Apples OSX operating system, all shown to you via a shiny 3.5″LCD screen that can tell whether to show you the info in widescreen or portrait via a built in annunciator. Apple have also worked with Google and Yahoo to integrate Google maps and a new live mobile version of Yahoo mail to make communication and travel info easily available to you.

The iPhone will start to ship in the USA by June and Europe by the 4th Quarter 2007 with the rest of the world by the beginning of 2008. There are a few worries I have about the iPhone, all the main European and even the main African network providers are now pushing a 3G based service with video calling etc and the iPhone is instead using good old GSM complimented by Wi-Fi (for internet etc) and bluetooth (for image and msg transfer). The other thing I would say is that in a market that see’s great change on an almost monthly basis, how long will it be before the likes of Nokia and Sony Ericsson come up with a viable alternative? I’m sure Microsoft must have some ideas up their sleeves already, time will tell!.

Apple also announced the launch of Apple TV, a gadget that is designed to bridge the gap between computers and television sets so users can more easily download their movies from online and put them onto the big screen. Apple will begin taking orders immediately for the $299 video box and It will ship next month. The functionality is similar to the Xbox but without the Games console side of it amongst other things.

Apple also announced they are changing their official name from Apple Computers inc, to just Apple inc, maybe next year they can change in to iApple inc!!!!
