Cafe des Arts

If you fancy a great intimate meal by the sea this festive season you could do little better than taking a trip to Cafe des Arts in Kalk bay (Cape Town).
Located on main rd on the sea front, this restaurant is a fab find. The venue is small however more than makes up for it in charm and character as well as delicious food of course.
The menu consists mostly of a variety of wonderful fish dishes, you can click on the picture above to see the full list (this changes slightly daily).
The most famed dish is the slow roasted duck and it is perfectly cooked, but my favorite has to be the mussels cooked in a white wine, garlic and herb sauce. All the fish is locally sourced from just down the road so if your a sea food lover your guaranteed to be in taste bud heaven.
A great wine list is also available, carefully selected by the owner/chef, Chris Hoffman, and no less than three wines from the Stormhoek stable are included, we chose a bottle of the Stormhoek Semillon and it went down a treat with our meal.
For desert they have the best home made almond ice cream (last remnants in the pic above) and lemon meringue among other daily changing favorites.
Adjoined to the restaurant is a great little art gallery with many pieces from local African artists, a great break and feast for the eyes while your waiting for your meal.
All in all a fab place and perfect for a quite meal out.
For bookings (advised in season) call 021 788 5270.
Till next time have a very merry Christmas.
P.S thanks to Dave,Nats, Gail and my hun for the company

  1. Mate was a great laugh, should make it a once a week thing, one new place every week?
